ESDR/SID Young Investigator Collegiality Awards

The ESDR/SID Young Investigator Collegiality Travel Awards are back!  After a year absence due to the 2023 ISID Meeting, the SID and ESDR are pleased to announce that applications are now being accepted for travel grants that are to be used to offset costs to attend the 2024 ESDR Annual Meeting in Lisbon, Portugal.

Background:  A joint initiative between the European Society for Dermatological Research (ESDR) and the Society for Investigative Dermatology (SID), the Young Fellow Collegiality Travel Awards are designed to promote the academic career development of researchers and clinician-scientists in investigative dermatology.

The joint vision of the two societies is to help promising researchers obtain international exposure of their work and thereby enhance their professionalism and sense of achievement.  The hope is that this would be a great way to stimulate academic exchange as well as new professional interactions and collaborations.

The program: The intent is for a young researcher in the US (who is active in SID activities), to submit an abstract (new data) for presentation at the ESDR Meeting.  Either en route to the ESDR Meeting or immediately after, the SID will support travel to visit a department or institute at which the individual could present some data and experience academic discussions/feedback (as well as local hospitality).

Eligibility: To be eligible for consideration of these travel grants, applicants must be a member of the SID (in good standing) and active in investigative dermatology in a US-based department, laboratory, or institution.  The applicant must also be employed as a Resident, PhD student, Post-Doctoral Fellow, or Assistant Professor.

Selection:  A committee made up of leaders from both the ESDR and SID will choose up to three applicants for the award.

The award:  The successful applicants will be awarded a travel grant in the amount of $1,500 to assist with travel and accommodation expenses.  The ESDR will waive the registration fee associated with the 51st Annual Meeting…to be held between September 4-September 7, 2024 in Lisbon.  There will also be an opportunity for the successful applicant to present and discuss their data when visiting a department in Europe.  A senior member of your department should help to assist with the coordination of the visit to a host department.  Any additional costs associated with the travel will be borne on the applicant or by the host department.

Application: Applications are to include the following for consideration.

  • Must submit an abstract submission to the ESDR Meeting CLICK HERE for access to the submission website.  The deadline for submission is Monday, June 3, 2024.
  • A brief CV
  • Details regarding the proposed department visit in Europe
  • A letter of confirmation from the department host confirming the willingness to host you (if selected)
  • A copy of the aforementioned abstract submission

Submission:  Apply by email to Jim Rumsey, Chief Operating Officer (rumsey@sidnet.org) or via fax at 216/579-9333.

Notification: Awardees will be notified by a representative of the SID no later than July 2024.
