Resident Retreat for Future Academicians

New SID Post PhD Retreat - The SID is launching a PhD retreat in conjunction with the resident retreat that will take place Tuesday night/Wednesday afternoon prior to the SID meeting (May 8-9, 2012). The Faculty will include Early Career and Senior Investigators working in a variety of academic institutions. This new program will work in parallel with the long-standing Resident Retreat. One of the primary goals of adding this new program is to facilitate interaction between investigators in order to foster the establishment of multi-disciplinary collaboration. Click here for further information about the PhD Retreat.

In 2001, the SID instituted the Resident Retreat for Future Academicians in an attempt to attract and retain young physicians in physician-scientist, physician/health services research careers and dermatology education. Department Chairs or Residency Training Program Directors were asked to nominate first- and second-year dermatology residents who were thought of as good candidates for research or academic careers to participate in a special retreat held at the Airlie Center in Warrenton, Virginia. In 2009, the program was appended to the SID Annual Meeting held in Montreal, Canada.

The 2012 Resident Retreat will be held at the Raleigh Convention Center starting at 4:30pm on Tuesday, May 8 and ending at 3:00pm on Wednesday, May 9.

Call for nominations is now closed.  Please contact Tracy Martin at the SID office at sid@sidnet.org or by calling (216) 579-9300 if you have any questions.

Program Objectives

Participants will have the opportunity to meet with leaders in the field of dermatologic research who are nationally-recognized physician-scientists.  They will discuss advantages of careers in research and opportunities for advancement in academic careers.  Click here to view preliminary program schedule.
