Call for Submissions: Directory of Training Opportunities for the 2017 Retreats
Deadline: March 31, 2017
The 2017 SID Annual Meeting in Portland, Oregon will once again offer its signature Resident and PhD Retreats. This year's retreats will take place on Tuesday, April 25 and Wednesday, April 26, in advance of the SID Annual Meeting, April 26-29, 2017. Approximately 60 outstanding MD, PhD and MD/PhD attendees have been nominated by their department Chairs, Lab or Program Directors; will be in attendance at the retreats. The finalists will be selected by the Committee's based on their demonstrated achievement, potential and interest in pursuing a career in research.
As a benefit of attending the SID Trainee Retreats, all retreat participants will receive a Directory of Training Opportunities. This publication (both digital & print) provides descriptions, application processes and relevant contact information for training opportunities open in dermatology departments, labs, and industry locations around the globe.
The fundamental mission of the Society for Investigative Dermatology (SID) is to support skin research and encourage the next generation of academicians and investigators needed to maintain the pipeline. In order to accomplish this, the SID developed two unique educational programs designed for trainees. The SID Resident, and PhD Retreats feature presentations by senior faculty in US institutions, the National Institutes of Health, and private foundations covering the critical success factors in a research or academic career.
The SID Resident Retreat will include sessions on conducting clinical research, grant writing, and negotiating a faculty position. It is designed for Dermatology residents interested in pursuing a career in Academia.
Criteria for Candidates
One of the Retreat goals is to achieve institutional diversity and introduce Residents to those from other programs. Dependent on the total number of applications received, we favor limiting attendance to only one candidate per institution, per Retreat; although the nomination of multiple candidates will be considered.
