The field of dermatology serves many constituencies: from researchers and workers in industry to private practitioners and patients. The SID primarily serves the research component of dermatology. However, advocacy is an important part of what we do.

As part of our Vision 2008 strategic plan, the SID has specifically identified the importance of strengthening and growing our advocacy efforts. By creating stronger collaborations with organizations like the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD)  and the Coalition of Skin Diseases, we can do much to increase awareness of the burden of skin disease. In this way, we strive to increase funding for the research that may one day cure skin disease.
