In 2007 the SID had a membership roster of 1,692, an increase of 5 percent over 2006.  Members in the Active/Sustaining category made up the majority of membership, but other categories continue to grow.  In 2007, membership in our Resident/Fellow category increased by 23 percent.  Growth in this, and other categories, is expected to increase in 2008 and beyond.

SID members hold a variety of degrees.  In 2007, nearly 50 percent of members were MDs.  333 members held MD/PhDs and 435 held PhDs.

The SID has members from several affiliations including academia, government, industry and private practice. 62 percent of members work within academia.
 


 

International Membership

 

Although the SID is based in the United States, our membership is worldwide.  Currently, our international membership component consists of 554 members representing 40 countries. The top five non-U.S. countries of membership origin are Japan (210 members), Germany, Korea, United Kingdom, and Canada.  Our international members continue to increase each year.
