Henry Lim, MD Biography
Dr. Lim received his Bachelor of
Science (Honors, Biochemistry) from McGill University, Montreal, and MD
degree (cum laude) from College of Medicine, State University of New
York, Downstate Medical Center, Brooklyn, NY. He completed his training
in dermatology at New York University School of Medicine, and following
the completion of 1 year research fellowship, he joined the faculty at
NYU. He subsequently spent 3 years as a full time dermatology faculty
member at the University of California in San Diego. He returned to New
York in 1985, where he was appointed as a faculty member at NYU as well
as chief of dermatology service at the New York VA Hospital, a major
teaching affiliate of NYU School of Medicine. He obtained the rank of
professor of dermatology at NYU. Between 1993 and 1997, he was the chief
of staff of the New York VA Hospital.
In 1997, he assumed the position of
Chairman and C.S. Livingood Chair of the Department of Dermatology at
Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit, Michigan. In November, 2003, he was
appointed as the Vice President for Academic Affairs, Henry Ford Health
System, while continuing his responsibility of chairman of dermatology.
He is currently an Adjunct Professor of Dermatology, NYU School of
Medicine, and Associate Dean for Henry Ford Health System, Wayne State
University School of Medicine.
Dr. Lim is internationally recognized
authority in photodermatology, the effect of ultraviolet and visible
light on the skin. He has published over 200 research and clinical
publications, reviews, and book chapters. He lectures widely on this
topic in the US and around the world. In addition, he is an
editor/co-editor of three text books (Clinical Photomedicine, 1993;
Photoaging, 2004; Photodermatology, 2007). He is active in the following
professional societies: American Academy of Dermatology (Board of
Directors, Vice President, 2007), American Board of Dermatology
(Director), American Board of Medical Specialties (Board of Directors),
Photomedicine Society (founder and past president), American Society for
Photobiology (Councilor and past president). He is also active
participant in teaching activities, including that of the American
Academy of Dermatology, European Academy of Dermatology and Venerology,
and the World Congress of Dermatology.
