In collaboration with the
American Academy of
Dermatology Association (AADA), the SID
completed the Burden of Skin Disease Project in 2005. Because data
on the incidence of skin disease in the US had not been updated
since 1979, the primary goal of the study was to determine the
current incidence and prevalence of skin diseases and disorders, and
provide a comprehensive view of the impact of the burden of skin
disease on society. It will help better forecast the changing
pattern of health needs and the potential yield in terms of
measurable health gain that can be achieved from the better use of
scarce resources. The study will be used as baseline data and will
show trends in disease occurrence.
